The suburb's namesake, Tacking Point Lighthouse, is about a kilometre away with a viewing platform over the coast. From May to November, migrating whales pass this stretch — binoculars are provided at the house for whale and dolphin watching.

- Rarely. The beach is 180 metres away, the playground 200, the cafés around the corner and the lighthouse about a kilometre. When you do drive, there's driveway parking at the house and free street parking nearby.
- Is the beach dog-friendly?
- Dog-friendly beaches and walking trails are reachable on foot from the house, and small dogs are considered on request (two at most). The pet-friendly page has the full policy.
- What time can we hit the beach on arrival day?
- Check-in is from 3pm with a key safe, so there's time for a late-afternoon swim. Check-out is by 11am, and neither is available on 25 December.
