Most Port Macquarie holiday lets say no to pets. Watonga Coastal Retreat says yes to small dogs — and it's set up for them: the backyard is fully fenced front to back, and pet-friendly beaches and bush-walking trails are reachable on foot from the house.
Lighthouse Beach itself is a 180-metre walk, so morning dog walks start the moment you close the gate behind you.
Our pet policy, upfront
Small dogs (maximum two) are considered on request — just ask before you book and let us know your dog's breed and age. Pets stay off the beds and lounges, and unfortunately cats can't be accommodated. Assistance animals are always welcome, no approval needed.
We'd rather be clear now than surprise you at booking time: if your dog fits the policy, you're very welcome.
Comfortable for the humans as well
While the dog patrols the yard, the rest of the crew gets a house that sleeps up to 12 across four bedrooms, a private outdoor pool (unheated), an indoor sauna, and a fully covered outdoor entertaining area with a Webber BBQ.

- Do we need approval before booking?
- Yes. Ask first and tell us your dog's breed and age; small dogs are considered on request, two at most. Cats can't be accommodated, and assistance animals never need approval.
- Is the yard secure?
- The backyard is fully fenced front to back, so the dog can be outside without anyone standing guard at the gate.
- Where can the dog run?
- Dog-friendly beaches and bush-walking trails are reachable on foot from the house, and Lighthouse Beach itself is a 180-metre walk. Binoculars at the house double as whale-spotting kit on the lighthouse walk.
- Any house rules that affect pets?
- Pets stay off beds and lounges, and quiet time runs 10pm–7am out of respect for the neighbours.
